I read wildeabandon as saying something like "I don't believe enough to behave any differently even when I am aware that the church tells me to, instead I anticipate the church's objections and rationalise them" (my emphasis). If you continually find yourself doing this, you might question whether you believe, or merely believe in belief. Not doing what the church says is the moral version of making excuses for the absence of the dragon.
