Sort of like when I came out on my UCAS form (making banners and going to talks with gay youth group was my extracurricular activity) the teachers said things like "I think you should take that part out, don't you realise people will use it as an excuse not to accept you?" - I replied that if a university were going to be like that I didn't want to be there, and that I didn't think people were as homophobic as they thought they were. Teachers are quite a sheltered lot, I got five offers for five slots.
