Wow, this is an amazing example of how much of a right decision it was for you to get out of academia! It's really great that you're loving your job and have a good local social life and a good community. If you blog less when your life is going well, ok, I'd definitely rather see you happy than see lots of posts from you, even though I find your posts interesting.

I am pretty certain that the ban on "political" comments refers to party politics only, not everything that affects the polis. But yeah, there are probably others who can give you better advice than me on what's acceptable.
