DVD rental by post
Dec. 8th, 2008 12:13 amAlec and I are considering signing up with one of those DVD rental by post things. Our reasoning behind this is that we rather like curling up on the sofa together to watch some TV or a film. We'd quite like to get into a regular weekly habit of having a film night where we show each other films we like. The kinds of films we like to watch aren't usually in Blockbuster. It's not like we'd be after obscure Icelandic documentaries, but I have a penchant for British gay rom/coms and 1980s fantasy films and Alec likes old war movies. There is the very good Mr Stacey's Most Excellent Video Emporium but it's the other side of town and, of course, as a single shop doesn't have the stock of a website.
I've looked at http://www.lovefilm.com which looks good. I think we'd go for the 4 DVDs a month tariff as that's just under one a week and we'd get to have two out at a time, so have plenty of time to post one and get another. They seem to have a very wide range of films, pretty much anything you could expect to see outside of a film festival.
Do any of you have any views on DVD rental by post and who to do it through? I'm also interested in the possibility of downloading films but I don't think that that's practical for us, as I have a Mac and Alec's laptop is very old and slow.
